Tier I Resolvable: This task falls under the Tier I scope of support.

The University of Texas at Austin students are eligible to download a copy of Microsoft Office 2016 at no cost via the Office 365 portal (https://office365.austin.utexas.edu/).

Downloading Your Copy of Microsoft Office

Click the “Office 365 Portal” link to get started.

Log in with your UT EID and password.

Click the “Install Office 2016” button and follow the instructions.

**Mac users must have OS 10.10 or higher in order to install Office 2016***

Once installed, you will continue to have access to Office until you graduate.

Activating Your Copy of Microsoft Office

Office 2016 on Windows activates automatically during installation. However, you can choose to sign in using your UT-affiliated email account to utilize Microsoft's cloud services across your Office 2016 applications. To do, open Word, PowerPoint, or Excel and select Sign in to get the most out of Office.

Enter your UTMail (USERNAME@utexas.edu) or Office 365 account (USERNAME@austin.utexas.edu) and click Next.

Enter your UT EID and EID password and click Sign In

After you graduate or leave the university, your license will expire, causing applications you download to revert to read-only. Documents can be viewed but not altered. You do however, have the option to purchase a non-student Microsoft Office license after graduation here:  https://products.office.com/en-us/buy/office to receive a product key for your new subscription and continue accessing and editing your documents.

For any questions, please contact the UT Service Desk at 512-475-9400, help@its.utexas.edu or stop by first floor lobby of the Flawn Academic Center (FAC) for walk-in service.
