What is Changing With the Wi-Fi Certificate?

“Trust and Accept” NEW utexas Wi-Fi Certificate on your phones and computers starting 7:30 a.m. on March 30.

Beginning March 30 at 7:30 a.m., you will be prompted to trust and accept a new certificate to access the utexas Wi-Fi network from your phones, tablets and computers.

The previous certificate is expiring as an annual security measure.

How Do I Accept the New Certificate on my Device?

  • When you access the utexas Wi-Fi network, your device will prompt you to “Trust/Accept” the new certificate.
  • Once you click on “Trust/Accept”, you will be connected to the utexas Wi-Fi network and no additional action will be necessary.
  • Please note that the university has several Wi-Fi networks. This certificate is for the utexas Wi-Fi network only. All university students, faculty and staff should use the utexas or utexas-iot Wi-Fi networks for all university-related business.
  • For those who may not be traveling to campus on a routine basis, you will need to “Trust/Accept” the new certificate on your first trip back to campus after March 30.


Based on data and feedback collected from early deployment at pilot sites, users may see the following on their devices when connecting to the Wi-Fi network after the certificate change.

Has the Certificate Chain Been Updated?

The new and the old certificates have the same certificate chain. This allows devices that are configured to only trust 'DigiCert Global Root CA' to continue to work after the change.
