Apple School Manager: Frequently Asked Questions
What is ASM?
Apple School Manager is a simple, web-based portal for IT administrators to deploy iOS, macOS, and tvOS devices all from one place. When used with your mobile device management (MDM) solution, you can configure device settings and buy and distribute apps and books.
I already have an Apple ID, can I use it to access Apple School Manager?
No- A special Managed Apple ID will need to be created and must use an email address that is not already connected with Apple Services (an @utexas account alias is recommended). Then you will use the Managed Apple ID to access Apple School Manager. Your Managed Apple ID will include your institution’s name or “appleid.” For example, your ID might look like email@example.com, firstname.lastname@example.org, email@example.com etc...
The University of Texas Apple School Manager administrator sets up your account name. If there’s a mistake in your username, or if you need to change your account information, contact the administrator.
I forgot my Managed Apple ID password. How do I reset it?
Unlike personal Apple IDs, your administrator resets your password. Follow these steps to create a new password:
- Contact your administrator to get a temporary password.
- Use your temporary password to sign in to a shared iPad or sign in to iCloud on your device. Or, if your role has access, sign in to Apple School Manager with your temporary password.
- Create a new password.
What kind of notifications will I receive from ASM?
ASM sends several types of notifications for system events, such as: new device additions, account sign-in creation or volume app purchases. Messages you receive will vary depending on your role (Administrator, Device Manager, Content Manager, etc.) and may not require any action (informational).
Can ASM manage my Mac devices?
Yes, however the ASM platform is a referral utility and requires an integration with a MDM (Mobile Device Management) solution to provide configuration of device settings.
