Forwarding a Message as a MIME Attachment

Sometimes it is necessary for ITS to have a complete, unaltered copy of a message to assist you with a problem. ITS may request such a copy for many reasons, including identifying a new source of spam or analyzing a security breach. The best way to send such a copy to ITS is by forwarding the message as a Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions (MIME) attachment.
Click on your preferred email application below for instructions to help you send an email message as a MIME attachment:
Note: Most mobile devices do NOT have this functionality.
Microsoft Outlook (Windows)
- Open Outlook.
- From the message pane, select the message you'd like to forward.
- Click the ... icon in the message pane and select Forward As Attachment.
OR
- Compose a new email
- From the message pane, select the message you'd like to forward.
- Drag the selected message into the body of the new email.
Microsoft Outlook for Mac
- Open Microsoft Outlook for Mac.
- Right-click (or Control-click) the message you want to forward as a MIME attachment > select Forward As Attachment.
Outlook Web App
- Log in to Outlook Web App using your UT EID and password.
- Select the message you want to forward as a MIME attachment.
- In the toolbar that appears at the top of the message, click the ... icon > select Other Reply Actions > Forward As Attachment.
UTmail
- Log in to UTmail with your UTmail username and password.
- Right-click (or Control-click) the message you want to forward as a MIME attachment > select Forward as attachment.
Apple Mail
- Open the Mail app.
- Right-click (or Control-click) the message you want to forward as a MIME attachment > select Forward as Attachment.
Mozilla Thunderbird
- Open Thunderbird.
- Right-click (or Control-click) the message you want to forward as a MIME attachment > select Forward As > Attachment.
