All connections to disk storage on Austin Disk Storage are required to use a secure connection method, such as IPSec, WebDAV, or secure file transfer protocol (SFTP), so that Austin Disk Storage meets the minimum requirements for Confidential data. This allows ITS to provide the campus community with an enterprise-level storage solution for Confidential data. However Austin Disk is not appropriate for data covered under International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).

IPSec is the recommended secure connection for Windows computers. Procedures are available for configuring your computer for IPSec and connecting securely to austin.utexas.edu (Windows).

WebDAV over SSL is the recommended secure connection method for Mac computers. Procedures for configuring Mac computers for WebDAV are available at Connecting Securely to austin.utexas.edu using WebDAV (Mac OS X 10.4.8 and above).

Off-campus users must have the VPN running when they connect to Austin Disk.
