Errors when connecting to an Austin Disk share

Receiving an error message when attempting to connect to an Austin Disk share can be due to a number of causes.

Windows

Windows cannot access \\austin.utexas.edu\disk\ShareName

 This error message can occur if:

  • The path to the share is incorrect due to misspelling, using forward slashes (/) instead of backslashes (\), et cetera.
    • Make sure you're entering the correct path: \\austin.utexas.edu\disk\ShareName
  • The path to the share is correct, but you don't have permissions to access it.
  • The share requires IPSec, but your computer isn't configured correctly.
    • This guide provides options for correctly configuring a Windows computer to use IPSec.
  • The share doesn't exist.

macOS

There was a problem connecting to the server "austin.utexas.edu".

 This error message can occur if:

  • The path to the share is incorrect due to misspelling, using backslashes (\) instead of forward slashes (/), et cetera.
