All Computers, Printers, Groups, and GPOs created by Departments must comply with the following naming convention:
- Prefix the name with the Department OU name, followed by a dash.
For example, if you are creating a group under austin.utexas.edu/Departments/ITS, its name must be prefixed with "ITS-", such as "ITS-WVD-Users".
This naming convention ensures unique names across the domain, makes it easier to find/locate/filter a Department's resources, and allows the Active Directory Administrators to identify which department an object belongs to - which is especially important in terms of GPOs as they are all located in the same container in AD.
